Fall Fruits

Fall is apple harvest time in our neighborhood. Local orchards let you pick your own, or you can buy fresh delicious local apples at produce stands. Fresh apple cider is available too, and one of my students told me that the nearby Bobwhite Acres produce stand has apple slushies at this time of year. YUM!!!

Students at Blue Church Art made the apple a subject for their masterpieces this month, using a variety of media. Some used vibrant colored inks called "Dr. Martin's Dyes" to create what the students are calling "tie-dye apples."

Botanically speaking, pumpkins are fruit, too! A fruit is the part of the plant that develops from a flower. It's also the section of the plant that contains the seeds. Anyone who has carved a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern knows that there are plenty of seeds in a pumpkin! These fruity pumpkins were created by the youngest students at Blue Church Art:
